Art Week at The Merlin School

The Merlin School embarked on an Art week and invited me to come to teach something about art to all the classes (YR to Y3). This time I introduced them to Jackson Pollock, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky and Henri Matisse. We looked at style and technique and seeked out the similarities and differences among them, looking also at ways to integrate them into a same project. Among others we made Matisse-like cut outs using Pollock’s practice to create new surprising effects, which was really a lot of fun! But equally inspired by Kandinsky’s abstraction or Klee’s colouring composition, the results were surprising. “It goes to say that if you put the bar high enough, kids just do it and surprise you with amazing results”, (Richard, teacher) IMG_2780IMG_2772
