This January Chris Agnew presented to a group of like-minded friends wanting to discover the London art scene his etching panels in his new solo show at Kristin Hjellegjerde gallery. He pushes yet a bit further the technical possibilities of etching, integrating technological elements familiar to us such as touch-screen doodling. But of course what is surprising is that these are engraved or painted in oil with great care and layered upon sketched historical references such as Bobby Kennedy or the actor Lee van Clee or older landscapes carefully inspired by 19th century artist Gustave Doré.
