Animals, plants and other souls – A tour of the exhibition ANIMISM, Knightsbridge

Rui MATSUNAGA Play-rabbit-deer

We met at Jessica Carlisle’s gallery space in Knightsbridge which was open just for a week to present work by four artists, Malene Hartmann Rasmussen, Nadege Meriau, Mimei Thompson and Rui Matsunaga.
The artists have created worlds inhabited by animals, plants and other souls. In fact, a world not very far from the stories we tell our children, where gingerbread comes to life and frogs speak to princesses.

This family tour and creative workshop introduced how contemporary art can capture concepts close to the heart of children, and the child within us. Artist Malene Hartmann Rasmussen explained the meaning and the process of making of her wonderful ceramics, every child loved it! A second part let creativity flow from the exhibition into coloured drawings imagined by the children.

“My wife and I did not know what to expect as it was the first time we attended with our children. We loved it, it’s so nice to be fed interesting culture” (Michael).
